Judge Issues Injunction Against Missouri Abortion Law

JEFFERSON CITY, MO - A federal judge has issued a preliminary injunction prohibiting the state from imposing additional regulations on abortion clinics.

Judge Ortrie Smith says the injunction is intended to allow for negotiations between the state and the abortion providers over how the regulations will be enforced for their facilities.

A law that was supposed to take effect August 28 expands the oversight of the Dept. of Health and Senior Services to cover some abortion clinics not previously subject to its regulations.

Attorneys for both the state and for abortion providers are claiming victory in the ruling.
