Congress Approves Water Resource Projects for Region 8

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Senate today approved legislation passed by the House of Representatives, which will fund ten "vitally important" water resource projects in Region 8.  The bill now awaits the signature of President Bush.

With the passage of the Water Resources Development Act of 2007, Congress has authorized more than $23 billion for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Civil Works programs to design, construct, operate and maintain water resource projects across the nation.  The WRDA has traditionally been used to authorize projects such as dredging, flood control, erosion, and dam safety.

The bill includes the following projects:

-Cache River Basin.

-East Arkansas Enterprise Community.

-Little Red River Irrigation District.

-Osceola Harbor.

-St. Francis River Basin/Land Transfer.

-St. Francis River Basin/MR&T Construction.

-Upper Mississippi Embayment.

-White River, Augusta to Clarendon Levee.

-White River Basin Comprehensive Study.

-White River Operation and Maintenance.
