Kennett Police Make Drug Bust

KENNETT, MO - An as-yet unidentified man was arrested in Kennett yesterday with a large amount of crack cocaine in his possession.

The arrest was made when Kennett officers were notified of a suspect inside a Federal Housing Authority area in which he had been banned.  When officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop of the suspect, the man allegedly fled "at a high rate of speed" into a residential area.  The suspect was eventually apprehended without further incident.  Police then found crack cocaine inside the trunk of the suspect's vehicle, with an estimated street value of $250,000.

According to Kennett Police Chief Barry Tate, the find represents "one of the largest amounts of crack cocaine seized at one time in the Bootheel area."

The suspect is being held at the Dunklin County Jail.
