Family and Friends Fight To Make Dangerous Railroad Crossing Safe

Sedgwick- Briana Arford was killed six months ago at a railroad crossing in Sedgwick.

She was trying to cross the tracks in her car when she was hit by a train.

There's no stop sign warning drivers to look for a train and Briana's mom says that's one of the reasons she thinks her daughter was killed at the intersection.

"She was just one of four people that we know of that have died on this particular crossing. All the trains were coming from the same direction. We just want to send a message that we want this track to be safe for our community or we want it shut down,' said Briana's mother, Vanessa Gray.

Gray, along with other concerned citizens of Sedgwick, are asking for some type of raling or sign to warn drivers of the dangerous crossing.

Briana's friend, Christina Thomas, is asking people to sign a petition for the changes to be made.

She says she doesn't want anyone else to have to deal with the hardships of losing a loved one to something she says is preventable.

"If just some lights or guard rails are put up, if we save one person, that's all that matters," said Thomas.

Briana's mother says continuing this good fight to make the rails safer is helping her get through the day.

K-8 did try to contact Burlington-Northern Santa Fe railroad and the town of Sedgwick.

Noone was in the office, but we will continue to track this story for you and bring you all the latest details as we get them.
