Authorities: Memphis Campus is Safe

MEMPHIS, TN - Authorities do not believe students at the University of Memphis are in danger despite the shooting death of a Tiger football player on campus.

Taylor Bradford of Nashville apparently was shot near a university housing complex about 9:45 p.m. Sunday and then crashed a car he was driving into a tree a short distance away.

Officers said witnesses saw two unidentified men running from the area where investigators believe the shooting occured and other witnesses reported hearing gunfire.

A motive for the shooting has not been determined and police have no suspects identified.

The football team hosts Marshall tonight, and a moment of silence is planned before the game at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium.  Head coach Tommy West said Bradford was well respected and a popular member of the team.

Investigators said they had no evidence that Bradford was involved in illegal activity or brought the attack on himself.
