Trial Postponed for Ex-Region 8 Teacher in Sex Case

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Trial has been delayed for a former Melbourne teacher charged with taking minors across state lines to engage in sexual activity.

Steven D. Mitchell, 32, of Pineville, was to have been tried this week in federal court in Little Rock.  But Mitchell is appealing a ruling that denied his pretrial motion to dismiss the charges.  The trial is postponed until the appeal runs its course.

Mitchell is accused of taking seven students under age 18 on out-of-state trips between October 2002 and June 2003 and engaging in illicit conduct with them.  Court documents say he took trips with students to Kentucky, Texas and Georgia.
