Advocates Say They'll Try Again on Teen Driving Restrictions

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Health and safety advocates say they want to try again with legislation that would put restrictions on when teen drivers can be on the road.

A coalition of groups marked National Teen Driver Safety Week with a rally at the state Capitol today.  Representative Gene Shelby said the Legislature should try in 2009 to pass new restrictions on teen drivers despite a defeat earlier this year.

The House defeated a proposal passed in the Senate this year that would have banned late-night driving by youth under the age of 18.  It would have also outlawed a young driver's use of a cell phone, and limited the number of passengers young drivers could have.
