Hearing Today in Taum Sauk Case

LESTERVILLE, MO - The failure of Ameren Corporation's Taum Sauk reservoir is the subject of a court hearing today in Reynolds County.

Barney's Bait Shop and other tourist-dependent businesses in the Black River Valley claim they have lost money since the December 2005 disaster.  Those businesses have filed a motion to intervene in the state's lawsuit against Ameren, rather than accept a monetary payment and other assistance from the utility company.

The reservoir breach spilled more than one billion gallons of water, causing significant damage to Johnson's Shut-Ins State Park and other areas near the reservoir.
