Jonesboro Resident Wins Ride with Dale Earnhardt Jr.

CHARLOTTE, NC - Imagine the thrill of speeding around a racetrack at triple-digit speeds with NASCAR superstar Dale Earnhardt, Jr. as your personal driver.  Longtime Jonesboro resident Ron Shelton won't have to imagine it for long.  Selected at random in a national promotion from the Wrangler brand, Shelton is the lucky winner of one of the last rides in the famed Dale Jr. #8 Budweiser Chevrolet.

Following the 2007 season, Earnhardt will officially be the driver of the just-announced Hendrick Motorsports #88 racecar.  Before switching teams, the NASCAR star will take only a handful of people for a high-speed ride-along in the famous DEI #8 car.  Shelton, a truck driver for Groendyke Transport, is one of three people to win the national Wrangler promotion and this ride of a lifetime.

Tomorrow, Shelton will suit up and strap in for three heart-pumping laps at Lowe's Motor Speedway.  He'll also get a glimpse at life in the driver's seat, when experts from the Richard Petty Driving Experience teach him to drive a NASCAR-style car.  After learing to operate safety devices, accelerate and decelerate, master shifting patterns and more, Shelton will cruise around the track again...as the driver!
