Student Shot at High School in Memphis

MEMPHIS, TN - One person is in custody after a shooting this morning at Manassas High School in Memphis sent a student to the hospital.

Investigators say a male student reported to the school's office with a gunshot wound to the arm.  The student was taken to The Regional Medical Center, where he is reported to be in good condition.

The incident happened just before 8 a.m.  Shortly after 9:30 a.m., police had one person in custody at the school.  The suspect reportedly left the campus after the shooting, but was returned by his mother.

Investigators say they don't yet know if the shooting was intentional or not.  Police have recovered the weapon they believe was used in the shooting.

After the shooting, the school was placed on lockdown for a short time.  Classes resumed at 10 a.m.

School officials say the act of bringing a weapon onto a school campus is punishable by a 180-day suspension.
