Porter Wagoner Remembered with Funeral at Grand Ole Opry House

NASHVILLE, TN - Country music legend Porter Wagoner was remembered today as a legend in music, but friends said he was also a man who knew God and was prepared to die.

Dolly Parton, Vince Gill, Marty Stuart, Patty Loveless and Ricky Skaggs were among those who honored Wagoner in song during his funeral at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville.

The 80-year-old native of West Plains, Missouri died of lung cancer Sunday in a Nashville hospice.

He had been a member of the Opry since 1957 and in many ways was the voice and face of the long-running radio show.

Parton, his former duet partner, led Opry performers in the song "I'll Fly Away" to close the funeral just before a final prayer.
