LITTLE ROCK, AR - Former Governor Mike Huckabee has asked fellow Republicans in the Arkansas Legislature to support his presidential campaign. Huckabee is hoping to blunt criticism from some conservatives in his home state over his policies on immigration and taxes.
Huckabee asked legislators in an e-mail sent Wednesday to join a group called Arkansas Republican Leaders for Huckabee and to advocate on his behalf of his White House bid.
Huckabee's plea comes as his campaign has gained strength in Iowa, but still faces skepticism within his home state. Only 8 percent of respondents in the annual Arkansas Poll by the University of Arkansas and they would vote for Huckabee if the election were held yesterday. That's far less than the 35 percent who named Democratic candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton, who served as the state's first lady for 12 years.
