LITTLE ROCK, AR - Attorney General Dustin McDaniel has approved the language of a ballot initiative that would create a state-run lottery to fund college scholarships. Lt. Governor Bill Halter is backing the measure. Yesterday's approval clears the way for supporters to gather the 78,000 signatures needed to place the item on the 2008 ballot.
Halter says a state lottery could bring in $100 million annually for college scholarships.
The attorney general's office had initially rejected Halter's proposal because McDaniel said an earlier version was unclear on several points.
