Ross Says Corps Decision to Close Arkansas Campsites 'Arbitrary'

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Congressman Mike Ross asked the Army Corps of Engineers today to reconsider its decision that closed for the season more than 400 campsites on lakes DeGray, Greeson and Ouachita.

The Democrat from Arkansas is calling the decision "arbitrary."  He is enouraging others to call or write the corps' Vicksburg, Mississippi, office, which manages the lakes.

Ross' office  says it has gotten more than 130 complaints about the federal agency's decision.

The corps announced the decision last month, citing a lack of funding and increased costs of supplies and materials.

The decision went into effect yesterday.  Some campsites remain open.  Many will reopen in May, while others will be closed indefinitely.
