HOT SPRINGS, AR - St. Joseph's hospital in Hot Springs has reopened its intensive care unit to visitors. The hospital closed the ICU to visitors and new patients last week after a number of patients developed infections from a drug-resistant bacteria.
Seven patients were treated for the infections. The hospital says the patients are continuing to respond to treatment.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the state Health Department consulted with St. Joseph's staff after the outbreak. The hospital said today that both agencies commended the hospital for its emergency response. The hospital says the agencies suggested that the hospital be held up as a model for responding to similar outbreaks.
