Man Pleads Not Guilty in Searcy Slaying

SEARCY, AR - A man charged with capital murder has pleaded not guilty to a slaying over the summer in Searcy.

Billy Terrell Adams is charged with the June 8 killing of 31-year-old Charles "Chuckie" Cunningham.  A jury trial is set for January 15.

Cunningham was shot in Searcy but he got in a drove away, only to wreck the vehicle.  He was found dead at the site of the crash.

Prosecutors are not pursuing the death penalty.  If convicted as charged, Adams would face a sentence of life in prison without parole.

A pretrial hearing for Adams is scheduled for 9 a.m., December 3.
