Bald Knob Voters Approve Temporary Tax to Benefit School

BALD KNOB, AR - Voters in Bald Knob have overwhelmingly approved a temporary sales tax to benefit the town's cash-strapped school.

According to complete but unofficial results, 384 people voted in favor of the tax, with 48 people opposing it in the election yesterday.

Superintendent James Staggs says he expected the tax to pass, but that the large margins shows the community's strong support for the school district.

Supporters of the Bald Knob School District have raised more than $1.6 million since the state took over the school in August.

The state Board of Education is to consider next month whether to merge Bald Knob with a nearby district.
