JONESBORO, AR - The U.S. Bureau of Land Management will hold a wild horse and burrow adoption in Jonesboro this weekend, at the ASU Equine Center/Gary Meadows Arena. The three-day event begins Friday with a preview of the approximately 100 animals, which include adult and yearling horses and burrows that once roamed free in the American West.
The BLM periodically removes excess animals from the range in order to ensure herd health and to protect fragile desert ecosystems.
Tomorrow's preview will offer potential adopters the opportunity to get an up-close look at the animals, as well as fill out any necessary advance paperwork. The actual adoption process will begin Saturday morning at 9, and continue until 5 p.m., and Sunday from 8 a.m. to noon.
