Lt. Governor to Bring Lottery Campaign to Region 8 Today

JONESBORO, AR - Lt. Governor Bill Halter's campaign for a state constitutional amendment creating a state-run lottery to fund education has raised $40,400.

Hope for Arkansas, the lottery campaign committee, filed a report yesterday showing it had raised $30,400 in October.  The contributions came from developer John Bradley and his wife, Patricia.  The Baileys have pledged $300,000 to the campaign.

The campaign spent the money on a Virginia consulting firm and on a Michigan signature-gathering company.

Halter will be in Jonesboro and Region 8 today, promoting his lottery campaign.

The proposal's language has been approved by the attorney general's office.  Supporters must gather 78,000 signatures to get it on the ballot.
