GOSNELL, AR - A small earthquake shook Gosnell but there were no reports of damage.
The U.S. Geological Survey says the magnitude 2.5 tremor struck the small town near Blytheville in Mississippi County. Officials say the earthquake bit four miles below the surface at about 2:55 p.m. Tuesday.
Gosnell police Lt. Charlie Byrd says he heard a boom and the city's police station shook for a moment. Mississippi County Sheriff's Office dispatchers say they received no calls about damage from the earthquake.
The New Madrid Fault runs from southern Illinois to northeast Arkansas, and produces hundreds of small quakes each year, most too weak to be noticed without scientific equipment.
