Forrest City Man Gets 10-Year Sentence for Killing Child

FORREST CITY, AR - A judge has sentenced a Forrest City man to 10 years in prison for beating a child to death with an electrical cord.

Cornelius Dawson, 32, was arrested on a capital murder charge in January for the death of 4-year-old Lamont Hurd.  Dawson's girlfriend, 24-year-old Roberta L. Johnson called an ambulance to their home after Lamont stopped breathing.

Police found what they described as healing cuts on across the toddler's head, neck, chest, arms, back, buttocks and legs after he was rushed to the Forrest City Medical Center.  Lamont later died at the hospital.
