4 Charged in Death of Memphis Football Player Held for Grand Jury Probe

MEMPHIS, TN - A judge was told that a football player shot to death on the University of Memphis campus was killed by bungling would-be robbers.

Following a brief hearing, Judge Karen Massey ordered the four defendants held in jail to await a grand jury review.

The court was told the four hatched their plot in the dorm room of one of them.

Taylor Bradford of Nashville was shot in September in the parking lot of his university apartment building.

Police detectives told the judge the attack was planned in the dorm room of the fellow student Devin Jefferson, who is identified by police as the suspected triggerman.

Bradford was killed the day after winning big at a Mississippi casino just south of Memphis.

Police say they found $7,400 cash on his body.
