Malco Theaters Plan Jonesboro Expansion

JONESBORO, AR - Memphis-based Malco Theaters announced this morning plans to expand one of its two multi-screen complexes in Jonesboro.

The company plans to expand and renovate the Jonesboro Hollywood Cinema, located at 2407 East Parker Drive.  Malco recently obtained additional property adjacent to the facility in order to expand it.  Acquired by Malco in 2000, the theater was originally built with 12 screens, but "due to overwhelming attendance, an additional four screens will be added, bringing the total screen count to 16."  Site work has already begun on the project in order to be ready for a summer 2008 debut.

When work is completed, the facility will feature a completely re-designed lobby, updated party rooms, additional concessions, extra restrooms, and a new video arcade.  "The intention is to bring the theater up to the standards of our newest locations," said Malco Vice President of Operations James Tashie.  "We hope the citizens of Jonesboro and the surrounding area will be pleased with the overall project."

As part of the company's conversion to digital cinema, the facility will be equipped with DLP and Dolby Digital Cinema projection.  This conversion will also allow the facility to offer alternative content, such as concerts and sporting events, and 3D movies when available.
