AG Files Lawsuit over Gas Company Contracts

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Arkansas' Attorney General said Tuesday he filed a lawsuit against a propane gas company alleging recent contract changes violated the state's Deceptive Trade Practices Act.

Attorney General Dustin McDaniel said he sued Ferrellgas on Monday on behalf of 45,000 Arkansas customers.  He says the company in 2004 began using a 23-page "Master Agreement" to make changes in customers' original 2-page contracts without consent.

McDaniel said Ferrellgas has tried to collect extra fees and that it forced customers to either pay the fees or go without heat.  Ferrellgas, based in Overland Park, Kansas, did not immediately return a telephone call seeking comment.
