Police Arrest Nine in Piracy Sting

SPRINGDALE, AR - Springdale police say they arrested nine people who were trying to sell thousands of pirated CDs and DVDs.

Investigators says the five adults and four minors sold the pirated discs at the Pleasant Flea Market.  Detective Jared Pena says those arrested sold the discs for $1 or $2 each, a fraction of the retail price.  He estimates losses to be about $193,000.

Pena says about 14,000 bootleg CDs and 1,700 pirated DVDs were on display at the flea market.

Police say people who knowingly purchase any pirated material could face charges as well.
