Governor Asks for Federal Disaster Declaration

ST. LOUIS, MO - Governor Blunt is asking for a federal emergency-disaster declaration for Missouri because of winter weather conditions.

More than 170,000 electric customers lost power because of ice and freezing rain, including nearly 50,000 in the St. Joseph area, more than 40,000 in southwest Missouri and nearly 30,000 in Jefferson City.

The National Guard was activated to help in Barton County and in northwest Missouri.

Blunt issued an exectutive order allowing the Department of Natural Resources to waive regulations on waste disposal in some counties for faster elimination of storm-related debris.
