Thousands Remain Without Power in Northern Missouri

ST. JOSEPH, MO - The Emergency Management Agency says 64,000 Missouri customers are still without power.

That figure includes about 32,000 Aquila customers in the Kansas City and St. Joseph areas.

Utility crews are continuing to work on restoring power, and an Aquila spokesman says the storm was the worst that northwest Missouri has seen in years.

Aquila has about 750 more workers than normal in northwest Missouri to help with storm recovery.  The extra crews include tree trimming and electrical line experts from Missouri and seven other states.

The National Guard is continuing to work in St. Joseph, Maryville and Barton County, and the American Red Cross has about 30 shelters set up in northwest Missouri and northeast Kansas.
