SeMo Red Cross Responding to Ice Storm Relief

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO - Disaster relief continues for those left without power in the wake of an ice storm that swept through Missouri earlier this week.  The American Red Cross has been busy opening shelters and distributing food to weary residents in affected areas.

Currently, 32 shelters remain open.  Shelters and warming stations are also being used as feeding stations for workers and families that are still without power.  Since Saturday, more than 940 persons have stayed overnight in shelters.

Red Cross volunteers from Caruthersville, Poplar Bluff and other southeast Missouri communities have responded to the call for help from neighboring chapters.  The Emergency Response Vehicle from the Southeast Missouri chapter has also been deployed to assist outreach teams visiting neighborhoods to see what assistance is needed for families to be able to return to their homes.
