Fire Strikes Mountain Home Plant

MOUNTAIN HOME, AR - Mountain Home fire officials say a Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. factory sustained heavy heat, smoke and water damage during a fire.

Fire officials say the plant was closed and only one person was on duty when the fire started after 2 p.m. Sunday.  The fire produced heavy black smoke that could be seen for miles.  Firefighters stayed at the scene until at least 7 p.m. and had to return after the fire rekindled.

Officials with Thermo Fisher could not be immediately reached today.  A company Web site lists the plant as manufacturing laboratory furniture and fume hoods.

Thermo Fisher is based in Waltham, Massachussetts.
