Bootheel Man Crushed to Death at MissCo Steel Mill

ARMOREL, AR - Officials say a Missouri Bootheel man has been crushed to death at a steel-processing plant in northeast Arkansas.

Authorities say 30-year-old Brandon Johnson of Caruthersville died of injuries suffered in the accident shortly before 7:45 a.m. today at Gibbons Steel.  The plant is located in Armorel, approximately five miles east of Blytheville.

Sheriff's deputies say Johnson was working at a table that holds 3,000-pound steel coils.  A report said the table apparently fell on Johnson, pinning the lower half of his body to the floor.  Fellow workers got a forklift and removed the table from Johnson and began first-aid procedures.

Johnson was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8:30 a.m.

The coroner said Johnson's body will be sent to the State Crime Lab in Little Rock for an autopsy.
