US Diplomat Shot to Death

A U.S. diplomat to Sudan and his driver were shot to death Tuesday in the Sudanese capital.  This one day after a UN/African Union force took over peacekeeping operations in Darfur, an area in turmoil located in Sudan.

The Sudanese Interior Ministry identified the wounded American as a humanitarian aid official and also observed shots that hit his hand, belly and shoulder.  The diplomat underwent surgery after the attack.

A spokesman from the U.S. Embassy in Khartoum who confirmed the death said it was "too early to tell" if this was the act of a terrorist group.
