Jonesboro Mayor Won't Seek Re-Election

JONESBORO, AR - Jonesboro Mayor Doug Formon says he does not intend to seek re-election to another term this year.

Formon informed his department heads at City Hall this morning, then called a sudden news conference this afternoon to make his decision public.  Citing personal reasons as the factors that led to his decision, Formon said the lack of adequate quality time spent with his family was the prime reason, explaining that he was "missing out on valuable time spent with his daughter," who is about to graduate from Arkansas State University.

Formon said he wasn't yet sure of his future plans.  He began his term as Mayor in 2006, defeating local businessman Dan Pierce in a hotly contested run-off election.
