State Fair Considering Move Across River

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Officials with the Arkansas State Fairgrounds say they are considering moving from its current home in Little Rock.

General Manager Ralph Shoptaw said the fairgrounds, near downtown Little Rock, do not have any surrounding land to grow on and old, narrow roads limit access to the fairgrounds.  Shoptaw said he'd like a drag-racing strip too, but now just needs 300 to 400 acres to build on.

As of now, Shoptaw has talked with officials in North Little Rock about potentially moving there.

Fair officials hope to break ground on a new site in the next three years.  The fairgrounds also may receive state funding for the expansion, but it's privately owned and operated through a nonprofit group.
