One Dead as Tornadoes Rumble Through Arkansas

APPLETON, AR - A tornado that swept through Arkansas yesterday took the life of a 61-year-old Appleton man.  The Pope County coroner says Billy Carter was killed and his wife, Lydonna Carter, was injured when the storms swept through the county and blew their home apart.  The couple were found in the wreckage.  Mrs. Carter was taken to a hospital in Russellville.  All that remained of their home was a pile of wood and metal.  The storms left the state, leaving cooler temperatures after an unseasonably warm spell.

Tornadic activity was also confirmed in Region 8, in Cross County and southern Mississippi County.  Either a small tornado or strong straightline winds also caused damage in west Jonesboro early Tuesday afternoon.
