Copper Bandits Arrested in Dunklin County

KENNETT, MO - Dunklin County authorities yesterday arrested a couple from Wardell on theft-related charges in connection with copper wire being stolen from area utility poles.

At 2:07 p.m., a sheriff's deputy was dispatched to County Road 405 west of Kennett due to a "suspicious vehicle driving through a farm field."  Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with 27-year-old Rodney Mayberry of Wardell.  The deputy searched the vehicle and reportedly found copper wire "consistent with the ground wire found on utility poles."  The deputy said Mayberry then confessed that he and 35-year-old Teresa Mayberry confessed to "removing the wiring from area utility poles."

The Mayberrys are charged with first degree stealing and property damage and are currently being held in the Dunklin County Jail with a cash-only bond of $25,000.
