SIKESTON, MO - It's been nearly ten years since someone killed a southeast Missouri woman and her 12-year-old daughter. Now, the region's major case squad is reactivated to take a new look at the case.
Sherri Scherer and her daughter, Megan, were found dead in their home near Portageville in March 1988. Both had been shot.
The case went cold for several years before investigators in 2006 began using new technology to analyze DNA evidence. As a result, the crime was linked to an unsolved killing from 1990 in South Carolina.
Now, authorities want to seek out people who may have had ties to both regions.
More than three dozen officers from local, state and federal agencies are involved in the renewed investigation.
