LITTLE ROCK, AR - The president and chief operating officer of Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield is retiring.  The insurance company says 63-year-old Sharon K. Allen will step down effective January 29.

Allen has worked for Blue Cross and Blue Shield for 40 years, and has served as chief operating officer since 1997, the company said.  She was promoted to president in 2002.

Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield is the state's largest health insurer, serving nearly one-third of Arkansans with such insurance.  The company and its affiliates have more than 2,500 employees in the state.
