Beebe Declares Craighead, Poinsett Counties Disaster Areas in Wake of Storms

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Governor Mike Beebe this morning declared Craighead and Poinsett counties in northeast Arkansas as state disaster areas due to the damage caused by thunderstorms and tornadoes on Monday and Tuesday.

Beebe also declared Benton, Conway, and Pope counties as disaster areas.

The governor's declaration releases $250,000 from the Governor's Disaster Fund to be used by the Arkansas Dept. of Emergency Management through the Individual Assistance Program.  Affected residents in all five counties can apply for assistance by phone at 1-877-828-3362 or at their local DHS office beginning Monday, January 14.

In Craighead County, the DHS office is located at 2920 McClellan Drive in Jonesboro.  The phone number there is 972-1732.  In Poinsett County, the office is located at 406 North Illinois Street in Harrisburg.  The phone number there is 578-5491.
