House Selects Conway Democrat as Speaker

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Rep. Robbie Wills will serve as House Speaker in next year's legislative session.

The Democrat from Conway was elected in a 98-0 vote today in an uncontested election.  Wills, a 39-year-old attorney, was first elected to the House in 2004.

Wills succeeds outgoing House Speaker Benny Petrus (D-Stuttgart).  Wills' victory in the speaker's race was assured last month after Rep. David Dunn (D-Montrose) withdrew from the race due to a lack of support.

The House speaker presides over the House during legislative sessions and can be influential in what laws are passed.
