Prescribed Burns Underway in Stone County

HOT SPRINGS, AR - National forest rangers say smoke rising above the trees in national forests in Arkansas might be from prescribed burns.

The fires are set purposely as part of a forest management tool.  Trained people conduct the burns under certain weather conditions.  Forest experts say the burns create greater diversity of wildlife and vegetation in the forests.

The burns are going on on about 600 acres in Stone County.
