Sheriff's Department Investigating Morning Incident with Westside School Bus

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The Craighead County Sheriff's Department is investigating an "incident" this morning involving a Westside School District bus.

According to Sheriff Jack McCann, the incident occured as the bus was running its morning pick-up route on Craighead County Road 118, which connects U.S. 63 and Arkansas 91 on Bono Hill/Crowley's Ridge, when another vehicle got too close to the bus, temporarily forcing it off the road's shoulder.  McCann said approximately eight-to-ten students sustained minor to moderate injuries as a result of the incident, including one which lost a tooth in the process.  McCann said his department learned of the incident after Westside resource officer Jamie Carter contacted the sheriff's office.  McCann said he was not yet sure of the time of the incident.

Westside superintendent Dr James Best released the following statement about the incident:

"An incident has been reported to district administration this morning that allegedly occured with a Westside school bus.

The district is currently investigating this incident administratively and in cooperation with law enforcement.  More information will be provided as it becomes available."
