ASU Receives $1 Million Gift for Wounded Veterans Center

JONESBORO, AR - A Virginia couple has donated $1 million to an Arkansas State University center that serves wounded veterans.

Buddy and Charlotte Beck of Fairfax Station, Virginia, donated the money for the Beck PRIDE Center for America's Wounded Veterans, located on the Jonesboro campus.  PRIDE stands for Personal Rehabilitation, Individual Development and Education.

The center offers veterans specialized physical and mental rehabilitation services, like physical therapy, speech language pathology and mental health counseling.  The center also will offer career counseling and academic guidance.

Officials say about 30 veterans are receiving services from the center.

The gift comes as about 3,200 members of the Arkansas National Guard prepare to deploy for Iraq.  Members of the 39th Infantry Brigade are not training at Camp Shelby, Mississippi, and are expected to move on to Iraq in March.  It is the brigade's second tour of Iraq.
