Three Miles of Copper Stolen from Power Lines

DE QUEEN, AR - Authorities in Sevier County say three miles of copper wire has been stolen from a Southwest Electric Power Co. high line.

A caller to the sheriff's office on Thursday reported that people in a blue car were stripping a power line that ran parallel to a railroad track.

The line had been disconnected from its electricity source.

Sheriff deputies arrived and saw that someone had been pulling the wire to the ground and cutting the wire off as high as they could reach, sheriff's officials said.

A SWEPCO spokesman said the four-strand copper line costs about 33 cents per foot.
