JONESBORO, AR - Mesa Air Group has filed notice that it will end passenger air service in Jonesboro and three other Arkansas cities. However, the carrier says it will continue to provide service until regulators designate a new carrier.
Mesa currently also provides passenger air service in El Dorado, Harrison and Hot Springs. The carrier has flights from those three cities, as well as Jonesboro, to Dallas. Harrison also has a flight to Kansas City.
The company lost $62 million in its fourth quarter and recently shuffled some top executives. It has filed notice that it wants to discontinue its Air Midwest service as of April 20.
Phoenix-based Mesa also served notice it wants to exit Grand Island and McCook, Nebraska; Columbia, Joplin and Kirksville, Missouri; and Manhattan and Salina, Kansas.
Mesa vice president for planning Thomas F. Bacon says the communities won't be left without air service because the routes are subsidized and mandated by the U.S. Dept. of Transportation. He says Mesa is still serving routes that Mesa served notice last year it wants to discontinue.
