Cape Girardeau's Kinder to Run for Governor

JEFFERSON CITY, MO - Lt. Governor Peter Kinder says he is running for governor.  And unlike the incumbent, Matt Blunt, Kinder vows he won't change his mind.

Kinder is the first Republican to declare he is definitely in the governor's race since Blunt shocked supporters and opponents by announcing that he will not seek a second term.

Kinder says he has been on the phone almost constantly since Blunt's announcement, getting commitments of support and money.  He is a Cape Girardeau native with strong ties to southeast Missouri, and is a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University.

Numerous other Republicans are still considering the race.

Attorney General Jay Nixon is the only Democrat currently running for governor.
