Finally, a Jonesboro Budget!

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - After many delays, a resignation and some people wondering if it would get done, Jonesboro officials have finally hammered out a budget for the 2008 calendar year.

The city's finance committee voted Thursday night to present the 2008 city budget in a special meeting next Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.  The budget is expected to be approved.

One of the notable items in the budget includes a police incentive package.

Region 8 News reported Wednesday that Don Ray, Finance Director for the city, was resigning effective February 1st.  Perhaps providing an inside glimpse into why the budget had yet to be completed, Ray commented, "In any organization, leadership requires teamwork, and it would have been helpful if we would have done a better job, all of us."

But it looks like the teamwork finally came together to help get the job done.

"Although he's given his notice effective February 1st, I think there's still a possibility we may be able to get him to stay a little longer than that," said Mayor Doug Formon, "He does want to help us through the budget cycle and be available to us and he's done a really, really good job for us."
