Firefighter Rescues Dog in Cape Girardeau

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO - A southeast Missouri man is safe and sound, and so is his dog, after a house fire.

The fire broke out yesterday afternoon in Cape Girardeau.  Rick Williams was asleep in the basement when he heard a loud boom and woke up to heavy black smoke.

He held his nose and ran out, but his dog, Brownie, was still inside.

Firefighter Darin Shell rescued the dog.

Fire officials believe a wire shorted out in the basement.  Damage was estimated at a few thousand dollars.
