High Winds Triggering Problems Across Northern Arkansas

POCAHONTAS, AR - Utility officials are reporting that more than 14,157 customers in northeast Arkansas and north-central Arkansas are without power this afternoon due to strong winds.

The winds are also contributing to various grass and brush fires in the region as well, including one in the city of Pocahontas, where police and firemen are on the scene at this hour at the intersection of Bowers Street and Highway 62.

Trees and power lines are reported down in several locations.

Emergency officials in Clay County are responding to what is reported as a serious accident on Highway 135.  It is not yet known if the wind is a contributing factor in that accident.
