Snow Hampers Power Restoration Efforts

LITTLE ROCK, AR - An Entergy Arkansas spokesman says snow has hampered efforts to restore power to customers who lost electricity because Tuesday's high winds blew down utility lines.

Entergy, the state's largest electric provider, said the winds knocked down more than 300 utility poles.  The wind storm and ensuing snow left about 14,000 homes and businesses without power late yesterday.

Entergy spokesman James Thompson said about 9,000 of those without power were in the Russellville area.  He said the wintry weather stopped linemen from going up in cherrpickers to fix downed lines.
