Jason Willett to Run for Mayor of Jonesboro

JONESBORO, AR - Jason Willett, 36, this morning announced his candidacy for Mayor of Jonesboro.

Willett has served on the staffs of Congressman Marion Berry and then Congresswoman Blanche Lincoln, and as Chairman of the Democratic Party of Arkansas.

A lifelong Jonesboro resident, Willett holds two degrees from the University of Arkansas, and is president of FJW Consulting, an economic development and government relations firm in downtown Jonesboro.

Willett says he'll make the area's economic development the focal point of his candidacy.  "Jonesboro is growing and progressive and I think the next mayor will play a key role in charting our cities future," Willett said.

Current Mayor Doug Formon announced last month that he will not seek re-election as Mayor, but instead will run for the office of Craighead County Tax Collector.

Region 8 News will have more on Willett's candidacy tonight on Region 8 News at Five and Six.
